Zooming Ahead

... For Choo Tay, many hours of volunteering and pro bono work led to the serendipitous discovery of a new product she is now marketing for profit.

As president/CEO of media88, the web site development and integrated marketing firm she founded in Phoenix in 1995, Tay has volunteered for many nonprofit companies, offering general help and insights on interactive marketing.

Last year, while volunteering for the Phoenix chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Tay realized many nonprofit organizations she has helped share the same problems and needs. That epiphany led to the development of a web-based application called Nonprofit Executives (NEX), which she now markets to various groups. It provides automated membership renewal, event registration, member communications and even online fund-raising. The Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce recently joined her list of customers for the product. The Malaysian-born Tay says her primary motivation for volunteering remains helping others; she continues to do pro bono work for NAWBO and currently serves on the board of the Herberger Theater Center.

Technology - media88 designs new website

The Herberger Theater Center and National Association of Woman Business Owners of Phoenix Metro Chapter re-launched new websites designed and developed by a local firm.

Phoenix-Based marketing and web-design firm media88 designed an application, known as NEX (Nonprofit Executive), specially for nonprofits.

The NEX software was created to enhanced sponsorship opportunity, broaden market exposure, and save time and costs in operations and fund raising.

The National Association of Woman Business Owners of Phoenix Metro Chapter web site is known as www.nawbophx.org and the Herberger theater Center's site is at www.herbergertheater.org. "Nonprofits are no different than any other business or corporations who need the latest technology to help them achieve these goals," said Choo Tay, president of media88.

Business Buss, "Ice Breaker"

Ask Choo Tay about …her favorite pastime, travel.

"I never have time anymore," when spotted at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Arizona annual dinner.

Tay, president of media88 Inc., became a bit better known in the small-business community after she was named the Governor's Small Business Council last summer. She also became busier. So the thing she love best, travel, has taken a back seat. When she does get away, her favorite spots include Vancouver, British Columbia, and Sydney, Australia. "The beaches were beautiful" in Australia, she said.

Greenery and weather stood out in Canada, she said. " And there are lots of good Chinese food too."
